Anduze
Anduze is a pretty little village in the Gard department of the Languedoc Roussillon, at the foot of the Cevennes mountain range on the river Gardon with its many riverside beaches, cliffs and interesting rock formations which give Anduze its spectacular scenery and views. It has a population of 3000 people and is busy all year round so there are no “dead” times and has much to offer in terms of summer and winter festivals, weekly markets, shops, bars, restaurants and a doctor’s surgery. Anduze is the gateway to the Cevennes mountain range and the Ardeche but is also just a short drive into Provence and only 1 hour from the beach. The village is steeped in history, especially of its strong Protestant routes and dates back before the 13th century and you can see evidence of this in its buildings including the old stone “Magnaneries” (Silk worm factories). There is also a steam train that takes you to the Bambouseraie which is a shady park of bamboo- perfect for those hot summer afternoons. Numerous little artisan shops are here too where you can buy unique pottery and furniture or generally browse the small, windy streets. The town gets quite busy in July and August too and so has a good potential for rental income during the summer if you require.
Access is easy with Marseille, Nimes and Montpellier airports nearby but also via the TGV high speed trains to Nimes, Marseille and Avignon.
